POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an experienced Controller with a background in multi-business organizations, who is almost ready for a CFO role in a complex organization. Someone who can join the team and work alongside our current CFO in preparation for his eventual retirement. Someone who can work with the team, preparing to lead it one day.
Our Accounting division oversees all aspects of financial management for Sunrise International, from our eight hotels in Alberta and British Columbia, to industrial/retail rental properties, marketing company, IT division, and other business assets.
In this role, you will be a key member of the Accounting Division and work collaboratively with the other divisions within the organization to effectively grow and develop our businesses.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA designation or equivalent is required.
  • Past experience as a Controller or in a senior leadership role in an organization with a diverse group of companies.
  • Experience collaborating with investment groups and financial institutions.
  • In depth knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • A passion for ensuring Accounting practices are efficient, thorough and accurate.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with past experience managing and motivating a diverse team remotely.
  • Ability to develop and manage spreadsheets, project schedules and summary reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration between departments and properties.
  • Creative and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to develop innovative financial strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills for data-driven decision making and reporting.
  • Proven ability to be proactive, self-directed, and self-motivated.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience utilizing Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with operations and executive to develop business strategies, budgets, and robust financial reporting. Optimize financial information to support business decisions.
  • Oversee business administration and financial strategy and planning, monitoring, management, and reporting. This includes the management and development of policies, systems, processes, and personnel involved.
  • Financial Compliance – ensure all operations are compliant with operational standards and audits.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Administer and review accounting setup for new projects.
  • Oversee reporting on the financial operations of the operating companies, the group, and make recommendations based on the data.
  • Oversee the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial statements.
  • Oversee cash management.
  • Analyze financial information to assist in planning financial management policies, business strategies and the control and use of business assets.
  • Manage external audit requirements in various capacities.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations and entries for period end closings.
  • Provide assistance with risk management and corporate governance.
  • Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory and Revenue Management.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to the accounting and administrative staff.
  • Manage and coordinate project reporting requirements.
  • Assist in monitoring the financial performance of the company.
  • All other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Lead by example and foster a positive workplace culture.
