Description The Controller is responsible for leading the company’s accounting and financial operations, including general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow oversight, payroll coordination, and internal controls. This role ensures accurate and timely financial information, compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations, and practical financial support for day-to-day business decisions. The Controller serves as a hands-on leader and business partner to ownership and leadership, helping maintain sound financial practices while supporting operational efficiency and long-term business goals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and account reconciliations. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting reports. Manage the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures to protect company assets and ensure the integrity of financial records. Monitor cash flow, banking activity, and financial commitments; provide regular cash planning and reporting to leadership. Support the annual budget process and assist leadership with forecasting, financial analysis, and business planning. Coordinate annual tax filings, audit support, and other compliance-related financial reporting with outside partners. Maintain compliance with GAAP, payroll and tax requirements, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Review financial results, identify trends or variances, and provide recommendations to improve financial performance and operational efficiency. Partner with leadership on pricing, margin analysis, capital purchases, and other business decisions. Evaluate and improve accounting systems, reporting tools, and workflows for accuracy and efficiency. Supervise, train, and support accounting staff, as applicable. Work collaboratively with Operations, HR, and leadership to ensure alignment between financial processes and business needs. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA strongly preferred. 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience required, with leadership or senior-level accounting responsibility preferred. Strong understanding of GAAP, financial statements, reconciliations, and internal controls. Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or product-based business preferred. Strong Excel skills required, including formulas, lookups, pivots, and financial analysis. Experience with accounting/ERP systems and payroll processes required. Ability to work hands-on and independently in a small to mid-sized business environment. Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate financial information clearly to leaders who are not in finance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer. Ability to move throughout the office and operational areas as needed. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, video, and in writing. Ability to review detailed financial information and perform work requiring close attention to accuracy.
