Controls Electrical Systems Engineer Job Summary This role establishes strong internal ownership of electrical system design, power distribution, safety systems, and industrial automation at Plum. The position is responsible for originating electrical designs and specifications, developing and maintaining PLC and HMI logic, and ensuring electrical and automation systems are safe, correct, maintainable, and aligned with Plum engineering standards. The role owns electrical design activities spanning industrial control panels, site electrical distribution, grounding and bonding, emergency shutdown (ESD) systems, instrumentation integration, and control system architecture. The position works closely with the Director of Electrical & Digital Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Operations, and external vendors to translate process intent into complete, buildable, and operable systems. Key Responsibilities   * Electrical System Design & Ownership (Primary Responsibility) * Originate and maintain electrical schematics, panel designs, and site electrical drawings * Develop single-line diagrams, power distribution layouts, grounding and bonding plans, and control panel layouts * Design and review industrial electrical systems including: * Utility power distribution * Panelboards and motor circuits * UPS and control power systems * Emergency shutdown (ESD) systems * Hazardous area electrical integration * Grounding and bonding systems * Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable electrical codes, hazardous location requirements, and industry best practices * Support development of electrical specifications, equipment standards, and design guidelines * Coordinate with electrical contractors, consulting engineers, and panel builders during design and fabrication * Review third-party electrical drawings and vendor packages for correctness, constructability, and compliance * Support creation and maintenance of as-built documentation and field redlines Controls & Automation (Primary Responsibility) * Own and maintain Plum’s PLC and automation standards * Develop, review, and approve PLC logic and HMI implementations * Translate control philosophy, operating narratives, and P&IDs into functional automation systems * Develop and maintain control system architectures, I/O design standards, and field integration approaches * Act as Plum’s technical authority when engaging external automation vendors and system integrators * Step in to modify or implement PLC logic when required * Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and field support activities * Support integration between PLC, SCADA, telemetry, and remote monitoring systems Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. * 1-5 years of experience with industrial electrical systems, preferably in CNG. * Willingness to travel up to 25%. * P.Eng. in one or more Canadian jurisdiction.
