Description SUMMARY Hands-on engineering role, focused on the design and implementation of system integration solutions for industrial customers. Develops and maintains documentation, designs, and schematics for various types of industrial control panels. Provides technical expertise to field service and panel technicians, business leaders, customers, and stakeholders. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Travels on-site to customer locations to evaluate projects, install or troubleshoot equipment, and provide on-site repair and engineering services. Designs industrial control panels and systems as required by customer and to UL 508A standards as required. Prepare schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials for projects, equipment, fixtures, and other technical requirements. Prepare and present submittal packages to customers to include quotation and timeline, Bill of Materials, component specifications, installation manuals/information, etc. for each project. Develop programming for PLC and other similar components to operate mechanical and/or process components in accordance with the sequence of operations. Interface with Purchasing to communicate specification requirements and to support vendor communications, product changes and pre-ordering. Interface with Customer Service and Panel Shop personnel to ensure proper communication of design requirements and to receive feedback on manufacturability. Prototypes, validates, and troubleshoots system installations. Performs engineering investigations of failed electronic components and systems. Develops, documents, implements, and provides training on various test platforms and processes for panel building, sub-assembly, and variable frequency drives. Provides technical and non-technical support for all levels of staff. Ensures projects can be completed safely, efficiently, with a high-quality yield, and within budget. Advises colleagues on technical specifications, requirements, and considerations for project proposals. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Engages with vendors and customers with a positive attitude. Provides additional backup support for panel technicians. Actively participate in the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process internally as well as with change orders with the customer. Work with others on the team to design parts and derive practical solutions to solve individual project issues. Must balance own workload and schedule (with engineering management guidance) to allow for timely production of project submittals and fabrication packages. Will normally have several jobs at various stages to manage. Performs other duties as directed by leadership. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE AAS degree or BS engineering degree preferred or equivalent combination of relevant technical experience. Minimum of 5 years of electrical controls design required. Experience with design and programming PLC/HMI based control systems. Experience with variable frequency drives. UL 508 experience strongly preferred. Intermediate MS Office skills required; advanced skills helpful. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY Thorough understanding of theory and application of industrial equipment, panel building, and system integration. Strong knowledge of control systems and be able to independently evaluate and modify the system designs. Proficiency with AutoCad. Competent in component identification and schematic interpretation and application. Basic understanding of ISO 9000:2001, UL 508, IPC-A-610, Best Practices, HSE, ESD Control programs, and related OSHA regulations. Self-management and initiative demonstrable by the ability to perform most assignments after receiving instructions and expectations only. Ability to assist in training, orientation, and work assignments of other employees. Ability to convey complex ideas and issues in a clear, concise, and understandable manner; ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels and cross functionally.
