JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

TeamAAM is looking for a Controls Engineer to join our Metal Forming team in Detroit, Michigan. This is a fully onsite role.

The Controls Engineer leads the design, testing, installation, and maintenance of machinery and automation for use in manufacturing. Applications are sophisticated, requiring cross-disciplinary integration and wide application of concepts.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Designs electrical drawings, ladder logic, HMI programs and integrate Safety PLC control systems for machinery and automation.
  • Works with equipment suppliers and ensures compliance with AAM equipment specifications.
  • Works with equipment design team and provides recommendations on equipment design and integration.
  • Works with contractors and is responsible for the electrical installation portion of equipment.
  • Supports plant maintenance and controls teams.
  • Collaborates with and mentors less experienced team members and students.
  • Understands safety in manufacturing environments and how it applies to controls design.
  • Understands and ensures alignment with NFPA & OSHA regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field, Trade School, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in a controls engineering position.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC, Control Logix, Servo Controllers, HMI products and software.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, fluid power systems, and robot integration and programming.
  • Advanced technical troubleshooting skills.
