EDUCATION:

• BS or MS in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

EXPERIENCE:

• 7+ years of experience implementing and integrating PLC systems in advanced manufacturing processes

REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

• Strong knowledge of control theory, systems, and automation
• Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial network configuration
• Hands-on experience with industrial control systems (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, OMRON)
• Understanding of PID loop tuning and the ability to optimize system performance
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols, including Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Profinet, Modbus, and DeviceNet
• Ability to apply systems engineering principles to design, manage, and troubleshoot complex systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex controls engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience providing electrical and controls support in a manufacturing environment

DESIRED SKILLS:

• Advanced degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• Experience with high-level programming languages (C#, VB, Java, C++)

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Controls Engineer serves as an electrical controls resource for manufacturing process improvement and capital expansion projects. This role manages the electrical and controls scope of assigned projects, leading delivery of medium to large-scale automation projects. Responsibilities include designing, developing, integrating, and troubleshooting robotic, PLC, and vision system programs, as well as maintaining project documentation and ensuring alignment with project requirements and standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as a technical leader and individual contributor, providing hands-on engineering support while mentoring other engineers and technicians.
• Lead or participate in projects involving PLCs, robotics, and vision systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Adhere to structured software development practices to ensure efficient system completion and project delivery.
• Conduct training for plant engineers and technicians on new equipment, processes, or control systems.
• Provide technical support during non-standard hours as needed to support project implementation.
• Occasionally act as a controls technician to support manufacturing systems and equipment.
