Job Details Job Location: Corporate Headquarters - Charlotte, NC 28278 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: 4 Year Degree Travel Percentage: Up to 40% Job Shift: Day Job Description Summary The Controls Engineer, OFA plays a vital role in overseeing the production of Okuma’s automation systems. This role will lead the automation team in researching, testing, and analyzing system and process improvements to ensure maximum production efficiency. Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities Analyzes production processes, determines problems, and designs and implements solutions Creates software architecture and design for embedded systems and industrial automation platforms used in manufacturing equipment. Prepares, reviews, and evaluates documentation, specifications, test plans, and procedures Develops system architecture and design including software, hardware, communications, and interface requirements Plans and implements preventive maintenance practices Defines performance metrics and ensures adherence to set metrics Provides electrical, mechanical, and technical assistance as needed Adheres to all company employment policies and safe practices Develops and performs training for Okuma, Distributor, and end-user personnel Performs other duties as assigned and explores opportunities to add value Experience/Training/Education Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred 3-7 years of engineering experience in a related field PLC programming experience preferred Hands on experience working on robotics, automation, or other powered machinery preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities General: Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage a range of responsibilities and competing priorities while working under pressure to meet deadlines Superb time management and organizational skills with the ability to meet regular and frequent deadlines Technical Required: Experienced with developing PLC logic: Preferred PLC’s (Beckoff, Codesys, AB, Siemens etc). Familiar with IEC 61131-3 standard programming languages. HMI and SCADA development for industrial automation systems. Experienced with Windows software development in Microsoft Visual Studio with .Net framework using programing languages: C#. Knowledge in Winform and/or WPF application development is preferred. Ability to create technical documentation. Preferred: Knowledge of one or more of the following programing languages: Python, Visual Basic, C, C++, Java, HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc. Database integration. Knowledge in industrial robot programming (Fanuc, ABB, Kuka, UR etc.) Familiar with typical software development tools (Git, Install Shield, XML Spy Pro, etc.) Ability to work with Industrial Vision systems. Motion control experience (VFDs, Servo systems). Familiarity with Okuma’s new and enhanced products, models, controls, and options. Understanding and application of national and international standards such as ISO, OSHA, ANSI, and current RIA robot safety specifications. Ability to read and understand machine’s electrical diagrams. CAD experience (Creo, Solidworks, Inventor, etc.) Communication: Strong written and verbal technical communication skills Exceptional ability to speak and write effectively in a business environment Exceptional ability to ask necessary questions Patience and persistence when communicating complex topics in a multi-national organization.
