Description CONTROLS ENGINEER, EAST PROVIDENCE, RI Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Controls Engineer will design, develop, program, and support control systems for industrial equipment and processes. This role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of automated systems through effective control logic, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. JOB TYPE: Full-time RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead controls engineering work to implement control systems and automation efforts across all production lines and equipment. Develop and support capacitor testing equipment and processes, including data management. Design and develop control systems for machinery, equipment, and industrial processes Program, test, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems Develop and maintain HMI interfaces and control documentation Create and review electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and I/O lists Commission and validate control systems during installation and start-up Diagnose system faults and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime Collaborate with manufacturing equipment, process, and product engineers Ensure compliance with safety standards, codes, and company policies Maintain accurate documentation for control programs and system changes Support ongoing automation upgrades and process improvements Support controls systems maintenance Additional duties as assigned Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or other related Science/Engineering, or commensurate experience. 2+ years of experience in a controls engineering role. Experience with PLC programming (e.g., Automation Direct, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, Omron) Proficiency with HMI/SCADA software Strong understanding of industrial control systems, sensors, actuators, and VFDs Experience with equipment sourcing integration. Experience with Ignition preferred. Knowledge of electrical component testing is a plus. Ability to read and create electrical schematics and wiring diagrams Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (e.g., medical devices, automotive, electronics) is a plus. Capability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines and quotas. Possess a collaborative team-oriented mindset and personality with a hands-on can-do attitude. Must be considered a U.S. Person eligible to work in the United States WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: General office and manufacturing environment. Exposure to hazards associated with manufacturing equipment and tools. This position requires working near electrical and mechanical equipment that could potentially interfere with pacemaker function. Ability to read and write in English. Ability to use a computer and sit at a desk. Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds Walking to various stations or areas of the production floor. Visual acuity for reading measurements, assembly instructions, and monitoring equipment. Hearing ability to detect alarms, machinery sounds, or verbal instructions in a noisy environment Will be required to wear appropriate PPE as outlined by company safety protocols.
