Manage controls engineering workforce schedules for all active projects including delegation of electrical design work and programming work to control engineers and engineering interns.
· Develop controls engineering standards of work and assist the engineering manager in development of organization wide standards of work.
· Ensure all engineering projects and processes are in conformance with the organization’s established policies and objectives.
· Assist in initial design work to help the sales team properly quote time and hard costs for completion of controls portions of incoming work.
· Implement and oversee JTA’s code repository server; administrate server to assist engineers through training and troubleshooting issues.
· Oversee hiring of future controls engineers to ensure their functional competence in the growth of the company.
· Lead factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT) duties and oversee engineering staff during runoff testing.
· Report on progress to management (aid in development of schedules and timelines for projects)
· Implement and standardize components across JTA product line to aid in efficiency of production of the JTA controls engineering product.
· Review electrical design work of other controls engineers and technicians to ensure quality and manufacturability to the JTA standards.
CONTROL ENGINEERING DUTIES:
· Works with mechanical and process engineers, as well as customers to understand control system and machine requirements.
· Selects suitable controls hardware within the constraints of cost, capability, and customer requirements.
· Generates a complete control system schematic in SolidWorks Electrical.
· Creates, tests and debugs industrial control software written in a variety of standard languages such as Ladder Logic, VB.NET, and C#, as well as hardware-specific languages such as Aero Basic.
· Modifies pre-existing software after careful study of the new requirements and existing hardware, electronics, and existing software.
· Designs and develops functional user interfaces using VB.NET, C#, or dedicated UI hardware and software, including Siemens and Allen Bradley platforms.
· Documents all code for future review and revision.
· Works with other engineers and writers to prepare customer ready documentation of software features.
· Works and communicates with hardware original equipment manufacturers to interface with their provided application program interfaces.
· Assists mechanical and electrical engineers with control system development issues.
· Works one-on-one or in groups with customers to provide training and support.
· Assists with the fabrication of control panels and enclosures.
· Develop machine vision programs and strategies.
· Assists with mechanical assembly.
· Develop desktop software when CoTS solutions do not exist.
· Develop plug-ins and interfaces to allow easy communication with minimally supported hardware.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provide periodic feedback to direct reporting engineers and interns to help maintain or raise the quality of the workforce.
· Provide disciplinary feedback as needed to take corrective action and ensure the expectations of team members are met.
· Improve controls engineering team skills through one-on-one meetings and weekly training sessions.
