Job Details Job Location: Office of Gilmer County Commissioners - Ellijay, GA Position Type: Part Time Salary Range: $15.00 Job Shift: Day Shift Description General Nature of Work The Convenience Center Attendant will provide customer service and direct Gilmer County citizens in disposing of waste, recyclables, etc., does related work as required. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Communicate openly and effectively with residents and staff to give a positive representation of Gilmer County. Directs residents in the proper location of disposal materials. (Household waste, metals, refrigerators, stoves, air conditioners, newspapers, glass and plastics, tires, brush and wood.) Ensure that unacceptable waste is not accepted at the disposal facility. Ensure grounds are free from trash and debris; place such debris in proper receptables as needed. Properly secure the convenience center upon leaving the center. Notify appropriate personnel when containers become full. Compact trash in either garbage truck or compactor. Keep daily logs. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Provide assistance to other employees or departments as needed. Able to work “on call” as needed for emergency situations, floating may be needed. Additional duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of landfill maintenance principles, and grounds maintenance principles. Knowledge of established safety rules and departmental policies and procedures. SKILLS Skill in determining, calculating, and/or summarizing data/information. Skill in exchanging information for the purpose of clarifying details within well-established policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, contractors, vendors, the public, or other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. ABILITIES Ability to work on a regular schedule and/or emergency basis. Ability to plan and prioritize to meet county deadlines. Ability to exercise judgement in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by well established procedures or sequences. Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information. Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Make simple arithmetic calculations. Accurately and consistently identify refuse loads and calculate fees. Ability to follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED preferred. 0-1 year of working in maintenance of building and/or grounds or related field preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Pass MVR screening. Must have reliable transportation. ADA Requirements: Individuals applying for the posted position must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical Requirements: Perform physical labor which involves frequent bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, twisting, crouching, crawling and carrying. Lifting objects and materials 10-20 pounds on a regular basis. Able to walk/stand for up to eight hours while performing tasks such as picking up litter. Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors (such as color-coded medical waste bags), sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Hear and distinguish various sounds, such as voices of co-workers in noisy environments and the sound of operating equipment. Work Environment: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as variable temperatures and weather conditions; confined spaces; heights, high levels of noise; strong, unpleasant odors; dirt, dust, pollen, allergenics, such as stinging insects and poison ivy/oak, wetness, humidity, rain, and noise extremes, hazardous materials, heights, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim light, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.
