Description Description Job Summary: At Just 4 Kids Preschool, we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children ranging in age from infants to pre-kindergarten. The cook will also ensure that all meals meet dietary guidelines and food safety standards as outlined by the USDA and CACFP, while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen. This role is vital in supporting the overall health and well-being of the children in our care. Key Responsibilities: Meal Planning & Preparation: Prepare and cook healthy, balanced meals and snacks according to weekly menus that adhere to nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions (e.g., allergies, cultural preferences). Modify menus to accommodate children with special dietary needs. Ensure portion sizes are appropriate for the age group served. Kitchen Management: Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen environment in compliance with health and safety regulations. Manage food inventory, including ordering supplies, rotating stock, and minimizing waste. Label and store food items properly to prevent spoilage. Keep accurate records of food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and inventory levels. Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all state and local health department regulations and daycare licensing standards related to food preparation and kitchen cleanliness. Conduct daily and weekly sanitation checks to ensure all kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils are clean and safe for use. Follow safety procedures in food preparation, including the safe use of kitchen appliances and equipment. Team Collaboration: Work closely with daycare staff to coordinate meal times and accommodate any last-minute changes or needs. Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers regarding meal planning and dietary concerns. Assist in the training of staff on food safety and handling as needed. Requirements Requirements Qualifications: Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary certification or relevant training preferred. Previous experience in a similar role, especially in a childcare or educational setting, is highly desirable. Knowledge of child nutrition and meal planning for young children. Skills & Abilities: Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and nutrition. Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Physical ability to lift heavy items, stand for extended periods, and perform kitchen tasks. Certifications: Food Handler’s Certification or ServSafe Certification is required. First Aid/CPR certification is a plus. Work Environment: The position involves working in a kitchen environment that may include exposure to heat, sharp objects, and kitchen machinery. Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.
