Berwick on the Lake retirement community and Marquise Hospitality are looking for a Cook who is reliable, authentic, and excited to make a difference in the lives of people. POSITION SUMMARY:

Prepares food in accordance with applicable corporate standards, guidelines and regulations with established policies and procedures. Ensures quality food service is provided at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the position (may be required to lift, move, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 kilograms).
  • Physically capable of performing assigned duties within a flexible work schedule inside a 7 day a week operation
  • Preference will be given to individuals who have chef training
  • Cooking experience, including experience as a restaurant cook or prep cook
  • Food Safety Certification required.
  • Certificate from a recognized cooking school is an asset.
  • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.
  • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks.
  • Familiar with industry’s best practices.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
    Note: At Berwick we understand the importance of immunization to protect our residents, team members and visitors from COVID-19. As such, a prerequisite of employment is that all new hires are vaccinated as approved by Health Canada. A current TB test and criminal record check are also required pursuant to the Criminal Records Review Act for working with vulnerable adults.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting in receiving and storing incoming food and supplies
  • Keeping work area, clean, sanitary and uncluttered, and completing scheduled cleaning duties
  • Prepare, pre-cook and/or cook food products as directed.
  • Prepare setting in place of foods, garnishes, sauces, dishes, cutlery, etc and other products as required for high volume production.
  • Clean kitchen equipment after use according to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Label, date, store and rotate food and beverage products in appropriate storage areas.
  • Communicate effectively with all appropriate operational departments.
  • Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
  • Participating actively in special occasions and theme meal days.
  • Attending departmental and facility staff meetings, in-services and other necessary training sessions
  • Maintaining a good attendance record in accordance with company policy.
