OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Cook/Chef for an African Restaurant that can prepare authentic dishes, manage kitchen operations, ensure strict food safety and hygiene standards, plan and create menus featuring African cuisines, and oversee stock control and ingredient procurement, often specialising in regional African food. Key responsibilities include supervising junior staff, maintaining a clean and organised kitchen, and adapting recipes to meet customer demand while upholding the quality of finished dishes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent Cooking skills.
  • Excellent Knowledge of African dishes
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook a wide variety of authentic African dishes, including soups, stews, grills, rice meals, and traditional staples.
  • Ensure consistency in taste, quality, and presentation of all menu items.
  • Develop, plan, and update menus to reflect seasonal ingredients and customer preferences.
  • Maintain proper food hygiene, safety, and storage practices in line with health regulations.
  • Manage kitchen operations efficiently, including prep work, cooking, plating, and timely service.

  • Train, supervise, and support junior kitchen staff in food preparation and cooking techniques.
  • Adapt traditional recipes for large-scale service while preserving authenticity.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and cooking equipment.
  • Collaborate with management to introduce new African-inspired specials and promotions.
