JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a talented Chef/cook to join our nursing home kitchen team.
1. Prepare, cook and serve meals for residents, visitors and staff on a daily basis. This may also include catering for ad-hoc events.
2. Comply with the policy and procedures as stated within the Food Safety Manual. Carry out Hazard Analysis and monitor Critical Control Points (HACCP) effectively.
3. Respect residents’ rights to privacy, dignity and choice.
4. In conjunction with the Head Chef follow/plan the menus to provide nutritionally balanced and attractively presented meals for residents providing when necessary for any special diets. To enable residents’ preferences and choice including the needs of residents with dementia and ethnic minority groups.
5. In conjunction with the Head Chef check on food stocks, list requirements and order stores, paying attention to cost effectiveness.
6. Ensure that activity rooms/tea trolleys have adequate supplies to allow drinks and snacks to be made as required.
7. Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and food storage areas in accordance with the Food Safety Manual. Ensure all kitchen equipment is in a safe and clean condition and report defects to a senior member of staff.
8. Dispose of all waste food hygienically.
9. Understand and adhere to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations in accordance with the Health and Safety Manual ensuring that cleaning materials they are used and stored safely.
10. In conjunction with the Head Chef, organise the weekly kitchen staff rota.
11. In conjunction with the Head Chef, supervise and train kitchen staff and oversee other staff using the kitchen. Ensure compliance with the Basic Hygiene Code of Practice (FS103).
12. In conjunction with the Head Chef assist with the induction of new staff as in accordance with the Induction Policy.
13. Attend and participate in staff meetings.
14. In conjunction with the Head Chef carry out audits and maintain records in accordance with the Food Safety Manual.
15. Attend training and development sessions as appropriate including compulsory Moving and handling and Health & Safety Training as designated for the role. This may involve travelling to other locations.
16. Attend and participate in regular supervision and appraisal sessions.
17. Be aware of and adhere to the organisation’s Health and Safety Policy.
18. Be aware of and adhere to the organisation’s policies contained in the Employment Policies and Procedures manual.
