Responsibilities

PURPOSE:

  • To provide a varied and well balanced meal, as per the weekly specified menus
  • To maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen and store rooms to the highest standards
  • To use seasonal fruits and vegetables, where possible.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To prepare and cook according to the weekly menus; to prepare the correct consistency of food/fluids according to service users’ individual needs; and to take into account specified diets to be catered for; you will be notified of which service users have a special diet in advance.
  2. Keeping records of all menus and any changes.
  3. Maintaining a stock control system for all items connected with the Kitchen, Dining Room and food, and supplying management with the required information in order to maintain adequate stocks.
  4. To supervise table and tray settings and the serving of food in an attractive but homely fashion.
  5. To supervise and assist with meal service as necessary.
  6. Supporting and adhering to a cleaning rota that ensures all pots, pans, kitchen equipment, kitchen and stores are kept in a clean and hygienic condition.
  7. Ensuring that all refrigerators and freezers are used in the correct manner within the training specifications you have received in your Food and Hygiene training; that the temperatures of those fridges and freezers are taken and recorded daily to maintain the correct storage in accordance of Safer Food, Better Business.
  8. Ensuring the temperatures of all main dishes are taken and recorded daily.
  9. To comply with the Home’s guidelines and policies, Risk Assessments and COSHH Records at all times.
  10. Taking part in all relevant staff meetings.
  11. Attending Induction training when first employed and all mandatory training thereafter.
  12. To observe all Health and Safety Directives; report any equipment defects and hazards e.g. loose carpets etc, to Management.

ALL STAFF ARE REQUIRED TO RESPECT THE CONFIDENTIALITY OF ALL MATTERS THAT THEY MIGHT LEARN IN THE COURSE OF THEIR EMPLOYMENT. ALL STAFF ARE EXPECTED TO RESPECT THE REQUIREMENTS UNDER THE DATA PROTECTION ACT 1998. ALL STAFF MUST ENSURE THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK ETC ACT 1974.
