JOB SUMMARY:

  1. The cook is responsible for supporting preparation of meals, including baked goods in sufficient quantities to satisfy requirements for the day.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education: Previous experience in quantity cooking an asset but not required.
  2. Must have knowledge and practice sanitation and safety measures needed working in a commercial kitchen.
  3. Food Handlers course (renewed every 3 years)
  4. Knowledge of special diets i.e. Diabetic, Low Fat, and High Fiber considered an asset.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be physically and mentally able to perform the duties with a minimum of supervision.
  2. Must be able to work under stress and demonstrate maturity, flexibility, and responsibility to be dependable and reliable
  3. Must demonstrate ability, initiative and good work ethics.
  4. Must have the ability to maintain good relations within the department and work co‐operatively with other departments.
  5. Must accept verbal and written orders.
  6. Must possess good organizational & time management skills.
  7. Must possess good communication skills, written and verbal.
  8. Must exhibit empathy and understanding of elderly residents and their needs
  9. Must present a neat, professional and clean appearance
Responsibilities
  1. Prepare raw foods for cooking (meats, vegetables, fruits)
  2. Baking pastries (bread, biscuits, pies, cookies, cakes, other desserts)
  3. Preparation of sandwiches, soups, salads, special lunches.
  4. Portion and serve foods according to prescribed methods and preferences ensuring diet orders are followed.
  5. Maintain work area – washing pots, pans, dishes used in meal preparation.
  6. Ensure storage areas are kept neat, clean and in order.
  7. Advise supervisor of any problems with menu, equipment or other job related duties
  8. Any other related duties assigned by supervisor.
  9. Aware of WHMIS and Health & Safety
  10. Attend regular staff meetings and in‐services and upgrading when offered.
