JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Lead Cook to join our culinary team at RWJBarnabas Health. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of prior cooking experience in a healthcare facility or restaurant setting. This role is essential in ensuring the preparation and presentation of high-quality meals for our staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 3-5 years of cooking experience in a healthcare facility or restaurant
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Preferred:

  • ServSafe certification

Responsibilities
  • Prepare main entrees for breakfast and lunch according to established standards and forecasted amounts, ensuring that appearance, taste, and temperature meet acceptable levels prior to meal service
  • Set up the service line for both breakfast and lunch, ensuring a smooth and efficient service
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized work area daily, adhering to all health and safety regulations
  • Assist team members as needed, fostering a collaborative and supportive kitchen environment
  • Contribute to the planning of weekly menus and the development of new menu items, incorporating seasonal ingredients and dietary considerations
  • Demonstrate strict adherence to food storage guidelines and report any identified safety issues, such as hazardous environments (e.g., damaged floors, walls, ceiling tiles, or unsecured areas)
  • Perform a variety of cooking duties, including grilling and preparing food items, while taking customer requests into account
  • Check supplies in assigned areas and replenish as needed to ensure continuous kitchen operations
  • Assist with the preparation of menu items, ensuring consistency and quality in all dishes served
