Position Summary: The Cook will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, appealing, and well-balanced meals for residents in accordance with established menus, dietary guidelines, and resident preferences. This role ensures food safety and sanitation standards are maintained at all times and supports the overall dining experience to promote resident satisfaction and well-being. Along with the above, the cook will collaborate with dietary staff, nursing teams, and management to accommodate special diets, texture modifications, and individualized meal plans, particularly for residents in memory care who may have unique nutritional needs. The position requires adherence to state and federal regulations, company policies, and best practices for continuing care environments. Prepare and serve meals that are palatable & appetizing in appearance. Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures. Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus. Prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diets. Be sure that appropriate equipment and utensils are provided with resident's meal service. Assist in serving meals, as necessary and on a timely basis. Assist with food preparation for special events, holidays etc. as directed. Make only authorized food substitutions. Prepare and serve alternative menu items as needed. Orders food and supplies as assigned. Performs cleaning duties as assigned. Ensure proper rotation of food. Dates and labels food as needed. Other duties as assigned. Practices safe work habits and follows all safety procedures of the workplace. Assures the safety, security, and wellbeing of our residents. For Café Cook: Places complete food orders in a timely manner. For Café Cook: Receives product delivery and verifies invoice and freshness of product. For Café Cook: Has knowledge of par stock and updates as necessary. Key Requirements Other: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members visitors, government agencies/staff, and the general public. Must be knowledgeable of practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret department programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care. Must have patience, tact a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle challenging residents/associates. Must be able to communicate with the staff, and other department supervisors. Maintains a rapport with the residents and their families. Must be willing to seek out new methods and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Must attend and participate in continuing educational programs. Must have valid state of residence driver’s license. May be required to use personal vehicle. Qualifications: Must have one year of dietary experience in long-term care setting or in the hospitality industry. Physical and Sensory Requirements: Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of this facility. May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to climb stairs. Working Conditions: Will work in a well lighted and ventilated area. Will be subject to frequent interruptions. May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. May be subject to call-backs during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.) Is subject to injury from falls, burns, from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke and other air contaminates.
