Description

The Sisters of the Precious Blood in London, Ontario are currently hiring a Cook to prepare meals at their Monastery for approximately 10 Sisters and their guests on occasion. This position will work Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 12:30pm excluding statutory holidays (20 hours per week). The ideal candidate will have had experience working in a residential kitchen, group home or other type of facility adhering to standard food safety practices.

Under the supervision of the Sister Superior and/or her delegate (the Kitchen Coordinator), the duties and responsibilities of the Cook include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing noon meal for the community (and guests) to be ready for 12:00 noon;
  • Follow the outlined 4-week menu plan provided;
  • Placing serving dishes and utensils on serving table or in warming oven;
  • Preparing for the supper meal;
  • Washing pots, pans & utensils used, cleaning all kitchen surfaces, mixers and other equipment used;
  • Storing all food, dishes and equipment in their proper place;
  • Sweeping the floor;
  • Taking out the garbage, recycling and organic waste at the end of each shift;
  • Baking and food preparation as required, to be done in consultation with the
  • Kitchen Coordinator;
  • Maintaining a current grocery list of needed supplies;
  • Careful watchfulness of food so as to avoid waste and spoilage;
  • Observing Food Safety Procedures;
  • Using the “Communications Book” to leave any messages for the Kitchen Coordinator and to follow any other instructions the Kitchen Coordinator may have; and
  • Complete other duties that may be required as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Completion of Food Safety Certification;
  • Promptness and reliability;
  • Prior training in the areas of cooking, food service, nutrition, food safety, etc. will be considered an asset;
  • Ability to read and adjust recipes, measure ingredients accurately, and care for perishable and frozen products responsibly;
  • Flexibility in times of changing circumstances and unexpected needs;
  • Ability to work independently; and
  • Ability to take on a variety of tasks as the need arises.
    In order to respect the quiet atmosphere of the monastery, minimal contact with the Sisters and/or guests is encouraged.
