POSITION OVERVIEW

Kingston Student Housing Co-op is a not for profit student housing cooperative providing housing and food service for 170 students. We offer our student members a food plan that allows each member access to three meal services a day. As part of this program each student member contributes 3 hours of kitchen duties per week which subsidizes their meal plan. In this role you will work as a cook and a leader in the kitchen to support each student member. In order to be successful in this role you would need to excel in food preparation, excellent time management, and provide supportive guidance and delegation.
We are seeking individuals to fill one Full Time Position

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Excellent enthusiastic attitude with a desire to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced, challenging and exciting work environment.
  • Good communication skills with an evident ability to direct and teach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to remain calm and polite at all times.
  • Ability to take direction and give direction
  • Ability to work independently and multi task
  • Requirements:
  • 3 – 5 years of related cooking experience.(mandatory)
  • Relevant culinary post-secondary studies preferred.
  • Red Seal certification is an asset
  • Food Safety Handlers Certificate (mandatory)
  • Experience cooking for large groups, batch cooking.(mandatory)
  • Experience and knowledge of special diets(vegan, Gluten Free, etc)
  • Ability to work early mornings, occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete meal prep and cook menu items.
  • Ensure that food is stored properly and meets safety standards.
  • Organize, delegate and supervise meal preparation with member participation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work station.
  • Direct front of house and assist in platting.
  • Ensure Dining hall and kitchen are clean and maintained using current health, sanitation and safety standards.
  • Assist in food inventory and quality control.
  • When needed, assist with dishes.
