The role supports the Sous or Executive Chef in maintaining high quality of food and safety standards. Essential Job Responsibilities * Prepare and cook a variety of meals for residents with attention to quality and presentation. * Alter or adapt recipes to accommodate special dining needs of residents or to improve recipes. * Ensure attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving. * Identify food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus and report to the supervisor. * Participate in new menu and special menu planning. * Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and kitchen/storage areas. * Ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control. * Prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery. Ensure proper storage of all delivered foods and ingredients. * Assist with dishwashing and kitchen sanitation, as needed. * Notify manager of food supply needs and malfunctioning equipment or appliances. * Assist in the recording of Ready – to – Use – food items into the TELS website. Three items should be recorded for every meal. * Record cooler, freezer and dish machine temperatures in the TELS website. * Report any on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs. * Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel. * Other duties as assigned. Education, Experience, and Other Requirements * Must be at least 18 years of age * 2+ years of cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required * Strong knowledge of food safety and dietary guidelines * State food-handling and kitchen regulations * Promote teamwork in providing services to residents. * Operation of kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer, etc.) * Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs. Preferred Qualifications * ServeSafe or equivalent certification is preferred * Willingness to learn and help others * Enjoyment in working with older adults #IND
