COORDINATOR, ABILITIES MANAGEMENT

We are currently seeking a Coordinator, Abilities Management to join our team and play a vital role in helping employees navigate illness, injury, and return-to-work planning.
As a Coordinator, Abilities Management, you will support employees, leaders, and union partners by administering sick leave and stay-onboard programs, and by coordinating straightforward case management for short-term illness. You will play a hands-on role in guiding employees through their recovery journey—helping them access early interventions, stay connected to their workplace, and return to work safely and successfully.

Reporting to the Manager, Abilities Management, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:

  • Assisting injured/ill employees in all aspects of their absence including early contact, case triage, initiation of sick plan, referral/connection to early intervention resources;
  • Building relationships with employees when gathering information for assessment purposes and completes initial case record set up in HRIS and Disability Management software;
  • Coordinating straight-forward disability management cases by working with the injured/ill employee on their absence including assessing, evaluating, and assisting the employee in managing their absences and by providing early intervention strategies;
  • Responding to written and verbal inquiries in writing or by telephone, and prepare correspondence in a variety of formats (i.e. file notes, letters and reports) for claimants, physicians, providers of care, employers, etc.;
  • Coordinating and facilitating return to work meetings with workers, worker representative groups, employers, insurers, and health care providers;
  • Providing pro-active support to the on-going development and updating of Abilities Management and Stay Onboard programs;
  • Supporting the research, development, and implementation of the Wellness Programs. Communicating with work sites to identify return to work opportunities for disabled workers;
  • Maintaining general awareness of applicable legislation including Employment Standards Act (ESA), Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, Workers Compensation Act, Freedom if Information and Protection of Personal Privacy Act (FOIPPA), and ensure compliance within area of responsibility;
  • Assisting Abilities management Advisor with providing education on return-to-work opportunities and disability management topics (i.e. duty to accommodate, gradual return to work design, etc.) to workers, worker representative groups, ER Teams, third-party adjudicators, and health care providers;
  • Liaising with medical and other health care professionals to ensure accurate, timely and complete information to support sick leave claims and planning for return to work an/or accommodation;
  • Interacting on a regular basis with third party providers (i.e. Canada Life, Sunlife, WorkSafe BC) and providing assistance and support with the disability administration requirements;
  • Providing support in managing STIIP claims information and data administration in Cority Case management module;
  • Performing a variety of clerical duties such as mail distribution, filing, copying, and collating documents (paper and electronic) to support the management of case files;
  • Responsible for payment of invoices, tracking and reporting claim expenses, and completing cheque requisitions
