POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the general direction of the WRHA Critical Care Program Director, and within the mission and values of the WRHA Critical Care Program, the Regional coordinator of Critical Care Education is responsible for the administration, development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programming for critical care staff in the region, including the Critical Care Nursing Orientation Program (CCNOP), ongoing continuing education, and educational and quality initiatives.

EXPERIENCE

  • Three to five years recent critical care nursing experience required.
  • Two years previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience in curriculum development/evaluation preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

EDUCATION (DEGREE/DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE)

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or Education preferred.
  • Post-basic program in Intensive Care nursing required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice.
  • Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
  • Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses Standards of Practice.
  • Scope of practice as documented in the Registered Nurses Act.
  • Regional/Facility/unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Nursing care knowledge related to critical care clinical area.
  • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices and other legislated acts.
  • Roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team.
  • Principles of delegation.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and proficiency in the use of common software.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of adult education, the research process, program development and evaluation and health care theory and practice.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or a group of patients.
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue professional self-development opportunities.
  • Ability to perform independently and as a member of the health care team.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations.
  • Ability to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to function in a demanding environment.
