SALARY: $62,337 - $87,859 per annum

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in ASL-English Interpreting recognized by CASLI (Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters)
  • Undergraduate degree in Linguistics or Social Sciences. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Several years of interpreting experience, preferably in a post secondary environment
  • Experience with case management
  • Direct experience assessing access needs, developing accommodation plans, and offering services to persons who are Deaf and hard of hearing and those with additional disabilities, preferably at the post-secondary level
  • Experience with consultation and coordinating, including providing consultation to peers and other professionals, the ability to motivate staff create a positive work environment
  • Experience using proactive, professional and effective communications strategies with students registered with DHHS, with their parents/support persons, instructors, and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and provincial Human Rights legislation, accessibility standards, privacy legislation and regulations, and the College’s legal obligations to accommodate
  • Human Resource management skills (e.g., hiring, monitoring staff job performance, providing feedback to manager on performance)
  • Excellent judgment, and strong analytical, problem-solving and interpretive skills with the ability to synthesize information from a wide variety of sources
  • Superior communication skills (written, verbal and American Sign language) as required to communicate effectively and professionally with students, team members, and internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to respond effectively to multiple demands and to meet tight deadlines
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

  • General understanding of Federal Government rules associated with study permits for international students and how disability related symptoms and accommodations may impact such permits
  • Training in crisis response (Psychological First aid, SafeTALK)
  • Suicide Intervention training (ASIST)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training
  • Training in providing feedback to interpreters and developing professional development plans
Responsibilities

The Coordinator of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services meets with RRC students, both on campus and virtually, who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and who may have additional disabilities, reviewing medical documentation, developing, and facilitating the delivery of a comprehensive range of reasonable accommodations, as well as monitoring the efficacy of those accommodations and consulting with the DHHS manager for highly complex situations when needed.
The coordinator’s duties include assisting the DHHS Manager in HR duties including casual and term staff scheduling, hiring, and onboarding of new staff, observing ASL-English interpreters in all learning environments, provide written feedback on ASL-English Interpreter work and make recommendations to the DHHS manager for staff training and development.
