About the role In this role, you will be accountable for the effective operation of the Geelong Botanic Gardens as a key recreational, horticultural, research, educational, cultural and tourism asset for Geelong. You will oversee both strategic planning and operational delivery as the asset owner and maintainer, ensuring the Gardens are sustainably managed and continue to thrive. As a people leader, you will provide strong and effective leadership, consistently role modelling Council values and fostering a positive team culture. Key responsibilities include: * Maintain and facilitate the delivery of the department's vision by communicating it effectively to lead the unit. * Motivate the team to deliver on the strategic goals, by translating and making the goals accessible and relevant to the team members for operational success. * As a member of the Parks & Gardens leadership group, support and drive cultural change in line with established Council people strategies. * Monitor, report, and utilise accurate data to track performance and improvements. * Implement systems, processes, and workflows to deliver results, ensuring relevant policies, governance mechanisms, and regulations are adhered to. * Maintain relationships with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders by adapting communication content and style to meet their needs. * Apply the principles of the BGCI’s International Agenda for Botanic Gardens in Conservation to develop and deliver the Botanic Gardens Living Plant Collection Management plans and manage the plant records database. About you To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in relevant specialist Horticulture, Botanic Garden Management and or significant professional experience in botanic/public garden management in a comparable organisation. Essential Experience: * Demonstrated people management skills to support, influence, and foster a productive team environment. * Well-developed writing, presentation, and negotiation skills to influence stakeholders and achieve support for objectives. * Well-developed problem solving and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build cooperation and partnerships. * Ability to support and champion change ensuring strong stakeholder engagement throughout the process. * Demonstrated skills in business planning and budget management. * Current Working with Children Check (Employee).
