JOB DESCRIPTION

Department: Kinesiology

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in higher education and/or related field, preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong background in computers and office automation, including word processing, spreadsheets, database software, Excel, PowerPoint and knowledge of the Windows environment.
  • Ability to work exercise equipment.
  • Maintains familiarity with the College‘s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy of education.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, general public or employees of organization.
  • Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  • Standing particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading, including color, depth perception, and field vision.
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
  • Have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in the day to day operations of our Wellness facilities at the Pecan and Mid-Valley campuses.
  • Assists Wellness Center visitors with questions and requests.
  • Maintains a calendar for use of facilities and schedules activities at all Wellness Centers.
  • Facilitates Wellness Center’s maintenance, upkeep and organization of equipment.
  • Works with the Site Coordinator and Department Chair on inventory and replacement needs.
  • Works with the Department Chair on logistics such as scheduling, opening hours, conduct code, and other rules and regulations.
  • Performs front desk duties and light administrative work, as needed.
  • Opens and secures the facility on a daily basis and during special events.
  • Oversees and ensures proper conduct by those participating or using the facility.
  • Enforces equipment protocol as part of a safe and secure environment.
  • Demonstrates proper exercise techniques and use of equipment to members and potential members.
  • Assists with department events/activities as assigned.
  • Attends department meetings and serves on committees upon request of the Department Chair.
  • Supervises part-time Wellness Center Aides and work-study employees district-wide.
  • Serves as Campus Security Authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
