POSITION: Coordinator of Athletics DEPARTMENT/OFFICE:  Office of Catholic Schools SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Coordinator of Athletics is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and oversight to K-12 and parish based athletic programs throughout the Diocese of Youngstown. The Coordinator will collaborate with schools and parishes to ensure that diocesan athletic programs promote, safety, excellence, ethics, sportsmanship, and the Gospel vision and values of the Diocese of Youngstown. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Promotes a ministry oriented, accountable environment for all aspects of the diocesan athletic programs, with a particular focus on the K-8 level. Collaborates with diocesan high school Athletic Directors to ensure high school level programs reflect the expectations of Catholic schools. Maintain visibility and open communication with pastors, school leaders, coaches, officials, and parents to identify needs and implement solutions in athletic programs. Facilitates conflict resolution through the use of communication and diplomatic skills that display professionalism, tact, empathy, respect, and courtesy. Coordinates workflow and communication between the Office of Catholic Schools and county/site athletic directors. Develops diocesan wide athletic program expectations for athletes and coaches and monitors implementation, including compliance with diocesan policies, Safe Environment requirements, and state/local regulations. Communicates with county and school Athletic Directors to ensure that scheduling and officiating requirements are met. Acts as a representative of the Diocese of Youngstown in all athletic related events and coordinates special events. Acts as an advisor regarding OHSAA regulations for high school level athletic programs. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Education, or a related field, or commensurate experience. Experience in supervisory or management roles. Experience promulgating professional requirements for coaches at all levels. Strong time management and logistics skills Superior communication and leadership skills Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, who has the ability to respect, promote, accommodate and not be in conflict with the mission, morals, doctrines, and teachings of the Roman Catholic faith is preferred, but not required. REQUIREMENTS BCI/FBI background check Safe Environment training Ability to travel to a wide variety of athletic events throughout the Diocese of Youngstown Ability to stand and move around for extended periods at athletic events WORKING CONDITIONS: Office work, involving periods of sitting, use of phone, computer, office equipment Indoor and outdoor athletic events in a variety of weather conditions Low noise level in office but moderate to high noise levels at some athletic events REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Superintendent of Catholic Schools   Please send resumes to Matthew Hazi - mhazi@youngstowndiocese.org
