Job Description:
Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Coordinator of English as a Second Language is responsible for discipline administration to include enrollment and retention of ESL program students, coordination of placement testing, recruitment and development of part-time faculty, academic scheduling of classes, and supervision of program support staff. The Coordinator will represent Reynolds in VCCS-wide disciplinary/ curricular conversations. The position is housed in the School of Humanities and Social Studies (SHSS), and the coordinator will be a part of the SHSS leadership team working in support of School and College priorities.
The Coordinator of ESL will also collaborate with the SHSS administration and other college stakeholders to scale the program to meet current community demand and act on opportunities for recruitment growth alongside recruitment happening via the College’s Office of Admissions. The Coordinator may also instruct up to one course an academic term in support of program needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in the field or Master’s degree with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in TESOL from an accredited institution and the equivalent.
Demonstrated ability to: Understand the wide range of ESL learners and lead a program that supports English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or readiness for college-level curricula.
Use educational technology (Canvas, Zoom, Teams).
Effectively comprehend, interpret, and contribute policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively with multi-cultural populations.
Ability to collaborate across units of an organization.Additional Considerations:
Two (2) years of full-time experience teaching ESL at a two-year institution of higher learning. Understanding of best practices in ESL recruitment, intake, and testing. Chair experience/ program administration with duties of faculty oversight, support, and evaluation preferred.
The selected candidate must be able to pass the college’s pre-employment security screening.
