POSITION SUMMARY:

To assist the Coordinator of Safety and Security in the planning, implementation, and coordination of security activities, district-wide emergency preparedness and safety training programs specific to elementary. To provide leadership, collaboration, and coordination in the area of safety and security to accomplish the mission of the district.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of five years in safety, security, and preparedness (law enforcement experience, preferred)
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to assist in the development and implementation of programs
  • Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or Board of Education may find appropriate

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of school security and preparedness
  • Knowledge of state requirements regarding school safety and security
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Effective, active listening skills
  • Strong organizational, written communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Knowledge of personal computers, spreadsheet applications, and databases
  • Ability to research issues/problems and identify practical, everyday solutions
  • Ability to plan, schedule, organize and prioritize activities and assignments
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in the processing of personnel data and the keeping of personnel records
  • Ability to understand and interpret basics policies and procedures

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Per the Dublin City Schools Administrative Compensation and Fringe Benefits Package.
Salary: Full-time, 195 days

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Collaborates with the district’s school resource officer program
  • Collaborates with local law enforcement and first responder agencies
  • Assists with active shooter and school safety training planning and professional development
  • Identifies training opportunities to assist with the district’s handling of students with mental health issues who may pose a safety concern
  • Conducts recurring security and safety audits of district facilities and makes recommendations for improvements
  • Assists with the management of the district’s access control system and video surveillance
  • Responds appropriately to crisis situations (i.e., emergencies, employee/parent concerns)
  • Ensures safety of students, staff, and visitors
  • Assists in ensuring the district abide by all state and federal law applicable to the scheduling, planning, and execution of safety drills and other requirements
  • Recommends security policies and procedures
  • Provides technical assistance in the day-to-day operation of the district safety team
  • Provides staff development for all personnel related to safety, security, and preparedness
  • Assists building principals and other administrative staff with protocols related to the security of the district
  • Assists with district, state, or federal reports as requested
  • Assists with worker and staff safety orientation and programs as requested
  • Assists with the district-wide safety and emergency planning program
  • Assists with the district’s visitor control systems and procedures
  • Assists in or conduct security investigations as deemed necessary
  • Works cooperatively with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure district compliance with current laws, regulations, or investigations
  • Works in collaboration with the Director of Elementary Education to coordinate building threat assessment teams

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a role model for students, staff, and the community
  • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the district
  • Promotes good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversation
  • Protects confidentiality of records and information about students or staff, and uses discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines
  • Ensures the safety of students
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships
  • Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district
  • Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment
  • Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic views
  • Responds to the routine questions and requests in a professional manner
  • Performs other safety/security-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent
