Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Innovation & Technology, the Coordinator of Solutions & Architecture ensures that all proposed IT solution designs, system integrations, and related practices are aligned with the Department’s strategic business goals and objectives.
The Coordinator of Solutions & Architecture provides senior level information technology expertise and direction for the architecture and Lifecyle management, and supports innovation and continuous improvement of city systems and processes through the implementation and use of well-designed systems and technologies.
The Coordinator of Solutions & Architecture leads and provides technical strategic direction, plans and designs of divisional innovation & technology services, ensuring alignment to business strategies and objectives.
The Coordinator of Solutions & Architecture is responsible for strategic architecture planning and maintaining departmental IT roadmap, as well as directing and coordinating daily activities of technical teams for assigned projects. In addition, this role is also responsible for analysis of design considerations, options, opportunities and risks, and proposal of recommendations for a given design.

As the Coordinator of Solutions & Architecture, you will:

  • Provide overall direction, guidance, and definition of IT architectures to effectively support Water and Waste Department’s business strategy and objectives.
  • Be responsible for strategic IT architecture planning including policies, procedures, and standards to guide the development, integration, implementation and maintenance of WWD’s information systems.
  • Propose and create solution architectures, system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to software development teams.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the daily activities of technical teams for assigned projects.
  • Research technical strategies, third party tools, current and new technologies and utilities industry trends to deal with emerging IT challenges and improve solution designs, and development and implementation efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Be responsible for managing contracts with respect to external suppliers and the negotiation and management of service level agreements.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the position as assigned.

YOUR EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of ten years of prior related experience with comprehensive knowledge of and direct experience in application development and management, team leadership, solution architecture and design, and enterprise architecture.
  • A minimum of three years direct experience working as a solution and enterprise architect.
  • Certification in enterprise architecture (TOGAF and/or Zachman) and ITIL would be considered assets.
  • Experience designing application architectures as well as infrastructure solutions for complex enterprise applications, preferably those with .NET technology and Oracle enterprise products.
  • Demonstrated experience developing business cases, cost benefit reports, and detailed project plans including cost, time and resource estimates.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and group facilitation, presentation development and delivery, and report writing as well as demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
