SUMMARY

The Coordinator of Veteran Recruitment and Student Service Success is part of the Student Services team, working under the supervision of the Dean of Students to ensure that the educational needs of the Veterans are understood and responded to by the college community, and that Veterans are provided academic support, retained, and graduate. The Coordinator will create and manage initiatives and activities that serve Veteran student needs, and enhance their educational, social, and leadership skills at MCNY.
MCNY enrolls daytime, evening, and Saturday students at two campuses (Manhattan and the Bronx). As part of the team, the Coordinator will be required to work some late evenings, occasional Saturdays, and travel to the Bronx Campus as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred;
• Minimum of two years of experience working in higher education, advising students from diverse backgrounds;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within the team and across various departments;
• Demonstration of initiative and passion for student success;
• Sound judgment, problem solving and critical thinking skills are essential;
• Able to work independently and as a member of a team, where cooperation and initiative are valued;
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to work with students and colleagues tactfully and effectively;
• Familiarity with educational technology and information systems (experience with Power Campus and Early Alert Systems preferred);
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and will be required to learn various internal student information and learning management systems;
• Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to multi-task;
• Able to work some evenings and weekends, as needed;
• Able to travel between campuses, as needed

• In collaboration with the marketing team and admissions team assist in the recruitment of Veterans.
• Plan and implement student life initiatives designed to build their spirit and enhance the student experience, thereby improving retention and graduation rates
• Partner with MCNY’s Social Worker to organize programs that promote health and wellness, that address the needs of veteran students.
• Develop external partnerships with organizations that focus on Veterans’ services to add to our wrap around services.
• In collaboration with the Career Services Office, identify professional development opportunities for Veterans and coach Veterans on the job search process
• Identify and implement professional development opportunities for staff and faculty, to better understand the Veteran experience
• Partner with MCNY Social Worker to identify Trauma informed education opportunities for faculty and staff.
• Collaborate with the Learning Enhancement Center to track the tutoring usage by veterans, identify the skills gaps, and identify resources to help improve academic performance
• Organize and maintain the Veterans’ Center to ensure it is a welcoming site and that it serves as a physical resource center for veterans
• Track and analyze key performance indicators focused on Veteran student success, such as, but not limited to: Persistence, retention, graduation.
