Description

Interior Health is hiring a permanent part-time Coordinator | Patient Transportation who is passionate about making a difference in healthcare. This position is located at Kelowna Community Health and Services Centre, in Kelowna, BC.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited program in direct patient care, with eligibility for licensure through the appropriate professional regulatory body (e.g., Emergency Medical Dispatcher, Emergency Medical Responder, Primary Care Paramedic, RN, LPN) or,
  • Previous call taking and/or dispatch experience in an emergency first responder call center (e.g. police, fire, ambulance) or health authority bed coordinator center.
  • Minimum of three years of recent, related experience, including coordination of Inter-Facility patient transfers.
  • And/or an equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate safe and cost-effective patient transportation services.
  • Fosters an environment that values client centered care, innovation, adaptability, flexibility, and critical thinking.
  • Ability to provide effective staff, patient and peer education related to the patient transportation system.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, the public, medical staff, and members of interdisciplinary teams in written and verbal forums.
  • Proven team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to collaborate effectively and contribute to the success of a small, team.
  • Able to thrive in a small team by fostering collaboration and focusing on collective outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, apply critical thinking, and problem-solve in a fast-paced call center environment.
  • Ability to adapt and implement ongoing change and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently, manage a varied workload and problem solve.
  • Skillful in customer relations.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including demonstrated ability to collect data utilizing computer software such as Windows’ Excel. Capable of working on multi-screen computer systems.
  • Ability to quickly acquire and apply medical terminology to support effective communication and documentation.
  • Defines own continuing education needs and maintains competency through reading literature, management workshops, seminars, and available educational offerings.
