Description

HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION

We work to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes
Our organisation is made up of talented and committed people around Aotearoa, from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for our students in our education system.

ABOUT YOU | MŌHOU AKE

We are looking for someone who loves to learn, enjoys a good spreadsheet, has an eye for detail and is good at keeping documentation organised.

You’ll also be:

  • Comfortable picking up the phone and talking things through with our loss adjusters, insurance brokers, and Ministry Property Advisors.
  • Familiar and competent working with numbers and making sure everything adds up.
  • Have experience with general office administration, including filing, emailing, using Outlook for emails and calendar management, Teams, Excel, Word, and AdobePro.
  • Experience working in insurance claims administration or funding policy administration is useful but not required.
  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

The Ownership & Occupancy team is a small but mighty team that works across School Property to help keep schools safe, warm and dry. You will have regular tasks that generate work, and you will have a lot of autonomy to decide what you do next and when.

Some examples of regular tasks are:

  • Checking for funding submissions assigned to you in our property management information system (K2) and reviewing them for whether they meet policy. You might review supporting documents that have been uploaded or call Property Advisors to ask questions.
  • Recommending whether they are eligible for Risk Management funding based on the policy. You might call or email our loss adjuster, broker, or other Ministry funding experts to help make your recommendation.
  • Working with our finance team to get the funding loaded, and with your manager to get the funding approved.
  • Emailing the insurers of people who have damaged school property and negotiating a settlement for the damage.
  • Checking a shared mailbox and answering questions about Risk Management funding.
  • Keeping data maintained and running quarterly and annual reports on that data to analyse our loss history for our insurers.

ABOUT THIS ROLE | MŌ TĒNEI TŪRANGA

This is a Fixed Term 8-month position to provide Parental Leave cover.
There is the option to work part-time (at least 3 days per week, 22.5 hours) or full-time (at a maximum of 37.5 hours per week).
The job is location flexible, with attendance at a Ministry office – Hamilton, Wellington or Auckland, 2 x per week.
Please indicate in your cover letter the number of hours you would prefer to work per week. If you have strict availability requirements (within certain hours, or certain days of the week) please note them in your cover letter.
This role administers the Ministry’s school-facing insurance policies, works closely with our insurance brokers, and tracks our spend against deductibles. A large day-to-day part of the role is reviewing requests for funding from schools following unexpected losses.
This requires a detailed knowledge of our insurance policies and the Ministry’s funding policies, and the ability to apply those policies to the facts and ask the right questions to make sure that schools are getting the funding they are entitled to after a loss.
Salary range: $60,079 – $72,199 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.
