Responsibilities

THE ROLE

Key responsibilities undertaken by the Coordinator Statutory Planning include:

  • Ensure the Statutory Planning team’s adherence to the Mount Alexander Planning Scheme and other relevant legislation, guidelines and Council policy.
  • Undertake the assessment and processing of complex planning and subdivision applications, including analysis of the requirements of the Mount Alexander Planning Scheme, Planning and Environment Act 1987, Subdivision Act 1999, and other legislation.
  • Provide specialist advice to Manager Development Services, Councillors, Executive Team, internal departments and external contractors on land use issues associated with sustainable land management, development and statutory planning functions and directions of the Mount Alexander Shire.
  • Provide technical advice to the statutory planning team, Manager of Development Services, internal departments, community members and developers regarding the interpretation of the Mount Alexander Planning Scheme, the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and other related planning legislation.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Thorough knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, Subdivision Act 1988 and Victorian Planning Provisions.
  • Experience in the preparation of reports requiring analytical and research skills, ability to identify options, political issues and present balanced comments using existing Council policies, precedent, background and local knowledge.
  • A sound knowledge of budgeting and relevant accounting and financial procedures
