The Role We have an exciting opportunity for a Coordinator of Sync Clearance to join our close-knit Synchronization team in Los Angeles. Reporting to the VP of Sync Clearance & Licensing Administration, this role requires thoughtful negotiation, rights clearance and deal execution across our world-class publishing catalog for sync licenses originating in North America. This is a business oriented position for someone who can build and maintain strong relationships, handle a high volume workload, and enjoys turning creative opportunities into meaningful revenue for writers and artists. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure Kobalt’s catalog is successfully licensed and payments are received in a timely manner. What You’ll Do Rights Clearance & Negotiation Negotiate and close synchronization requests, ensuring all rights are cleared accurately, efficiently, and with fair terms & fees across a wide range of media-types for licenses originating in North America. Client Relationship Management Build, develop and maintain strong relationships with music supervisors & licensees to accommodate their needs while prioritizing our writers’ & artist’s best interest. Client & Writer Engagement Effectively communicate with Kobalt clients, including songwriters, artists and their representatives to obtain approval for license requests. Workload & Time Management Process high volumes of music clearances and client requests in a timely manner as well as support the team in maintaining and managing licensing deals in our internal database. Attend key internal and/or external meetings as deemed necessary by your supervisor. Database Research Navigate Kobalt’s internal database and sync tools to identify appropriate approval parties and to analyze licensing history to determine fair pricing for sync usages. Troubleshoot & Collaborate Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to troubleshoot split discrepancies or overcome other obstacles in the end to end licensing process. What You’ll Bring 1-2 years prior sync clearance experience and a working knowledge of music licensing and copyright. A deadline driven approach with the ability to handle and prioritize large volumes of work efficiently. Interpersonal with highly adaptable communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external parties. Enthusiastic team player, who is keen to help out wherever needed Ability to work with minimal supervision, and possess excellent organization, written and oral communication skills Strong proficiency with common software and tools, including G-Suite, Microsoft Office, Excel, presentation tools and email. Experience at a music publisher, label, production library or as a music supervisor is beneficial, but most importantly significant interest in the sync industry, and the trends and strategies used by production companies to clear and license music. What Success Looks Like In the first 3 months: You’ve built strong internal relationships, understand Kobalt’s workflows, and are actively clearing sync opportunities. In 6 months: You’re closing deals independently, forming a deeper understanding of Kobalt’s catalog, and becoming familiar with client expectations. In 12 months: You’re recognized internally and externally as a trusted partner, and have become a confident negotiator working with a reasonable degree of autonomy to facilitate the end to end licensing process.
