The Coordinator Towards Zero Suicides is responsible for managing the development and implementation of a range of new suicide prevention initiatives. There are eight key priorities that constitute the Towards Zero Suicides Initiative. The district will be required to oversight four priorities and work with service partners to develop and implement others.
The position will oversight, in collaboration with local executives, the NSW Strategic Framework for Suicide Prevention 2018-2013. This will include helping to redesign systems and build the skills of the mental health workforce to prevent suicides among people with mental illness in inpatient and community care.
The position holder will be required to develop and deliver local strategies that support the cultural and practice changes necessary to implement the Towards Zero Suicides Initiatives in line with national and international best practice models. The initiatives will be developed and delivered with a major focus on involvement of people with a lived experience of suicide and key internal and external stakeholders.
The Coordinator Towards Zero Suicides will primarily work with Mental Health Inpatient and Community Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol (MHDA) teams across the District and hospital based staff. However, they will also be required as part of co-design methodology to consult and engage with other organisations involved in the provision of suicide prevention and treatment services as well as the broader Murrumbidgee community.
The position requires high level service leadership and organisational skills.
This position is open to the following classifications, as per Position Description: Health Manager – Level 3, Allied Health Professional – Level 4, Psychologist, Senior Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Nurse Manager – Grade 2.
Contract extensions are subject to ongoing funding.
