About the role In this role, lead Council staff and contractors responsible for managing Geelong’s urban forest, ensuring the delivery of safe, sustainable and high-quality tree management services. You will drive continuous improvement initiatives, support and motivate a large operational workforce, and contribute as a key member of the Parks & Natural Assets Leadership Team. With a strong focus on lifecycle asset management, you will oversee the growth, development and diversification of the city’s urban forest while ensuring compliance with legislative, contractual and service level requirements. Key responsibilities include: * Maintain and facilitate the delivery of the department's vision by communicating it effectively to lead the unit. * Motivate the team to deliver on the strategic goals, by translating and making the goals accessible and relevant to the team members for operational success. * Facilitate and maintain a team culture consistent with the organisation’s values, ensure staff feel valued, productive, engaged and supported while developing their professional skills. * Coordinate direct reports and their teams on delivering goals and outcomes, meeting deadlines, and driving continuous improvement and quality outcomes.   * Coordinate the efficient delivery of Council’s tree management programs & initiatives to provide a professional, safe and customer focused service.  * Provide subject matter expertise and advice to leaders and other relevant stakeholders. * Develop and manage innovative procurement methods and ensuring effective ongoing contract management for compliance and service delivery performance. About you To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Arboriculture or Horticulture and significant professional experience in arboriculture in a comparable organisation. Essential Experience: * Demonstrated people management skills to support, influence, and foster a productive team environment.  * Well-developed writing, presentation, and negotiation skills to influence stakeholders and achieve support for objectives. * Well-developed problem solving and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build cooperation and partnerships. * Ability to support and champion change ensuring strong stakeholder engagement throughout the process.  * Demonstrated skills in business planning and budget management. * Current Working with Children Check (Employee).
