Join us at Copeland! The Team & Role If you are a Mechanical Engineering Student looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Sidney, Ohio location, you will improve your skills learned in the classroom by balancing the priorities of multiple engineering teams and projects. You will collaborate with different departments in addition to their own, in areas such as Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, Sales, Materials, Management, etc. You will need to be willing to spend time in a manufacturing setting, in a lab/testing environment, and/or be willing to work in an office setting. Your responsibilities will combine individual tasks as well as collaborative work or group projects. Key Responsibilities & Your Day-to-Day Assisting with various research, testing, and evaluations Processing documentation and conducting data analysis Conducting manufacturing audits Attending department, team and project meetings as necessary Assisting with process improvement projects tied to manufacturing Collaborating with other engineers, teams and departments Potential Internship Projects within the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Group: Design Engineering-The AME Design group supports the development of assembly lines and tooling for Copeland’s product lines. The team partners with manufacturing engineers, outside integrators, and tooling suppliers to deliver practical design solutions. As an intern, you’ll create 3D models and drawings for tooling and fixtures, support AME projects, and work with vendors to bring designs to life. You’ll gain hands-on experience in mechanical design, CAD software, and exposure to real-world automation and manufacturing projects Advanced Manufacturing- This team of engineers focuses on advancing technology development for both new products and processes. They collaborate broadly with AME peers, New Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and more. As an intern, you’ll contribute to process improvement projects, audits, testing, and evaluations. You’ll also work with documentation, data analysis, and design software to develop real solutions to manufacturing challenges Process & Equipment Development-This team includes mechanical, welding, robotics, and controls engineers who support new product launches and capacity expansion programs. They work cross-functionally with Copeland’s North American manufacturing locations and New Product Development teams. As an intern, you’ll support plant layouts, equipment procurement, and qualification of new processes. You’ll apply Lean principles, participate in PFMEAs and statistical analyses, and gain direct experience with process and equipment development tied to new product manufacturing Machining – The AME Machining team develops, implements, and optimizes manufacturing technologies to enable efficient, high-quality production. They work closely with assembly, automation, controls, and quality teams, as well as suppliers and Copeland’s manufacturing plants. As an intern, you’ll use CAD tools to design components and tooling, then connect design intent to production by setting up CNC machining and verifying part conformance. You’ll also conduct time studies, analyze material flow, and propose efficiency improvements using Lean methods What You Bring You have the ability to identify a problem and conceptualize a solution. You bring a combination of design and hands-on experience to prototype solutions to various manufacturing issues. You are able to work in a team and collaborate with others in the organization to find the best solution possible. Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher Anticipated Graduation of December 2026 or May 2027 Strong interest in manufacturing, process improvement, or product design Skills or coursework in areas such as CAD/3D modeling, machining, data analysis, Lean/continuous improvement, or automation Legal authorization to work in the United States – Sponsorship will not be provided for this role Why Copeland?
