Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Copy Editor with experience editing math-specific educational content. This contractor will be responsible for proofreading and editing math instructional materials—including lessons, assessments, and teacher supports—created by our team of writers and subject matter experts. The ideal candidate will have strong editing skills, a sharp eye for detail, and familiarity with math language conventions and formatting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, mathematics, education, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience editing K–12 educational content, preferably in mathematics or STEM subjects.
  • Strong command of English grammar, usage, and editorial best practices.
  • Ability to edit with accuracy and efficiency under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with common math symbols, equations, and layout conventions (e.g., fractions, exponents, number lines).
  • Proficiency in editing tools such as Microsoft Word (with tracked changes), Google Docs, or Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to follow detailed editorial guidelines and adapt to project-specific style rules.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience working with TEKS or other state-aligned math curricula.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and plain language principles.
  • Knowledge of CMS (Chicago Manual of Style) or APA style guides.
  • Experience with digital platforms and collaborative editing environments.
