Description The Optical Lab Supervisor – AR Department is responsible for supervising and coordinating all activities within the Anti-Reflective Coatings area of the optical laboratory. This role ensures that all coating processes are completed with precision, consistency, and efficiency to meet Superior Optical’s quality standards and production goals. The Supervisor provides leadership, technical expertise, and direction to the AR team, ensuring safe operations, optimal equipment performance, and exceptional product quality. Requirements Supervision & Leadership • Oversee daily operations of the AR department, including team scheduling, task assignment, and workflow management. • Supervise AR coating technicians and ensure adherence to quality, safety, and production standards. • Coach, train, and develop employees to promote continuous improvement and skill advancement. • Monitor attendance, productivity, and overall team performance; provide feedback and corrective action when necessary. Operational Efficiency • Ensure smooth, timely processing of lenses through all AR coating stages — including cleaning, coating, curing, and inspection. • Optimize department workflow to meet daily production targets and turnaround times. • Collaborate with the AR Manager to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and reduce waste. • Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, and operational readiness to minimize downtime and defects. Quality Control • Maintain strict adherence to Superior Optical’s AR quality standards, ensuring coatings meet optical, cosmetic, and adhesion specifications. • Inspect lenses for coating defects such as smudges, peel, crazing, or color variation. • Partner with the Quality Control team to investigate root causes of coating issues and apply corrective/preventive actions. • Ensure all AR processes are performed in clean, controlled environments to avoid contamination. Training & Compliance • Train and mentor team members on AR coating procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols. • Ensure compliance with all company SOPs, safety policies, and OSHA regulations. • Promote a culture of safety and accountability within the department. • Maintain detailed logs of production, maintenance, and process parameters for traceability. Collaboration & Communication • Coordinate closely with Surfacing, Finishing, and Quality departments to ensure smooth job flow and accurate handoffs. • Communicate production goals, quality issues, and process changes effectively to staff and management. • Support cross-department initiatives to improve overall lab efficiency, reduce rework, and enhance product consistency. This is a full time, night shift position. The hours to be determined.
