Description JOB SUMMARY Performs medical examinations, prescribes medication, diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatment for new and existing patients. Works closely with other members of the clinical staff, coordinating patient care. Travel required. RELATIONSHIPS Reports to: Medical Director, Administrative Supervisor Supervises: None QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Medicine / Osteopathy program Training in appropriate Medical Specialty, required as applicable Current State Licensure required Current DEA certificate, if applicable Maintains CEU's in pertinent clinical practice, according to licensure requirements Training/experience in clinical setting preferred MENTAL DEMANDS Requires frequent and constant judgment and response; occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills. Requires English language skills adequate for high-level interpersonal and written communication. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Requires a high level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care activities. Ability to move quickly in response to patient needs, occasional overhead or low reaching and the ability to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly. OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens; may encounter chemical hazards and radiation hazards.. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVES 1. Objectively evaluates suggestions or criticisms and attempts to improve performance or seeks further guidance as needed 4.2. Attends and actively participates in meetings, committees, in-services, seminars, workshops, conferences, quality management activities according to job responsibilities and requirements 5. Provides effective and efficient supervisory activities necessary to patient care. 5.1. Coordinates daily personnel assignments with members of the healthcare team 5.2. Assists in coordinating patient care activities with health care team members to provide for continuity of patient care 5.3. Assists health care staff in identifying and solving patient care problems 5.4. Assist with patient care activities during emergencies 5.5. Participates in primary care of patients and verifies that patient needs are met 5.6. Enforces the implementation of practice standards to provide quality patient care 5.7. Prescribes appropriate Diagnostics necessary for patient care, to include MRI, DMX, Urinalysis, CT scans and / or other appropriate diagnostic testing 5.8. Prescribes appropriate medication 6. Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient. 6.1. Documents patient records and other forms according to policy 6.2. Communicates information about the patient’s status to others responsible for patient care. 6.3. Accurately comprehends, delivers and interprets verbal orders and directions 6.4. Performs assigned activities to provide safe and individualized care 6.5. Recognizes patient’s need for support and provides for privacy and confidentiality 6.6. Prepares equipment/supplies needed for care of patients and for performing diagnostic tests 7. Physiatrist: Applies prescribed procedures competently (Interventional Physiatry) 7.1. Tests, monitors or confirms medical equipment is in proper working condition. 7.2. Accurately interprets diagnostic imaging 7.3. Confirms that all persons in the procedure room are properly shielded before X-ray / Fluoroscopic machine activation. 7.4. Follows manufacturer's specifications and OSHA guidelines when performing procedures involving X-ray / Fluoroscopy. 7.5. Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide availability and safety. 7.6. Maintains adequate supplies to provide immediate availability during procedures, as it relates to scope of practice 7.7. Properly disposes of unused medications 7.8. Maintains a clean and organized procedure area. 8. Specialist Neurosurgeon / Orthopaedic Surgeon: Examines patients and applies prescribed procedures according to the scope of practice of their specialty of Neurosurgery & / or Orthopaedic Surgery 8.1. Tests, monitors or confirms medical equipment is in proper working condition. 8.2. Accurately interprets diagnostic imaging 8.3. Follows manufacturer's specifications and OSHA guidelines when performing procedures 8.4. Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide availability and safety. 8.5. Maintains adequate supplies to provide immediate availability during procedures, as it relates to scope of practice 8.6. Properly disposes of unused medications 8.7. Maintains a clean and organized examination and procedure areas. 9. Radiologist: Applies prescribed procedures to perform radiology functions 9.1. Accurately interprets diagnostic imaging 9.2. Documents diagnostic findings according to policy 9.3. Communicates information about diagnostic results according to policy 10. Maintains environment according to housekeeping guidelines and infection control policies and procedures 10.1. Follows housekeeping guidelines for cleaning responsibilities 10.2. Monitors contracted housekeeping activities for correct cleaning methods 10.3. Reports any damaged equipment discovered during routine cleaning 10.4. Handles hazardous waste according to policy 10.5. Uses cleaning agents and equipment according to safety, manufacturer and facility standards 10.6. Performs preventative maintenance assignments according to manufacturers’ directions 10.7. Monitors effectiveness of pest control service 10.8. Maintains a clean and organized work area
