Job Description Job Summary The role is accountable for the reliable operation, monitoring, and maintenance coordination of Chillers & HVAC cooling systems, Air Compressors (Clean & Plant Air), and Boilers/Steam Systems at a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical facility. The executive ensures continuous utility availability, energy-efficient operation, GMP/EHS compliance, and supports preventive/corrective maintenance, documentation, and audit readiness. Roles & Responsibilities 1) Chillers & Cooling Systems Operate and monitor chillers, cooling towers, condenser/evaporator circuits, pumps, and BMS/SCADA dashboards. Maintain target CHW supply/return temperatures, ΔT, and kW/TR performance. Conduct routine checks on refrigerant levels, oil condition, vibration, water treatment, strainer cleaning, and drift eliminators. Coordinate with HVAC team for AHU/process cooling load requirements and demand-side optimization. 2) Air Compressors (Clean & Plant Air) Operate screw/reciprocating compressors, dryers (refrigeration/heatless/heat of compression), filters, and receiver tanks. Maintain pressure band, dew point, oil carryover, and air quality (as applicable for Clean Compressed Air). Perform leak detection & rectification, condensate management, and auto drain checks; ensure dryer performance and differential pressure across filters. 3) Boilers & Steam Systems Operate and monitor boilers, feedwater systems, deaerators, steam headers, and condensate return. Maintain steam pressure/quality, fuel-to-steam ratio, blowdown schedules, and water chemistry (pH, TDS, hardness, sulfite/PO₄, etc.). Coordinate with third-party/boiler attendants; ensure compliance with statutory requirements and safety valves testing. 4) Preventive & Corrective Maintenance Plan and execute PM schedules (CMMS-based) for chillers, compressors, dryers, boilers, pumps, and control valves. Support breakdown troubleshooting, perform first-level diagnostics (electrical/mechanical/instrumentation), and escalate to OEM when required. Maintain critical spares and consumables (seals, gaskets, filters, oil, belts) inventory. 5) Monitoring, Documentation & Compliance Maintain shift-wise logbooks, checklists, trends, and digital records (Part 11 compliant systems where applicable). Adhere to GMP documentation standards (ALCOA+), SOPs, and change control. Support IQ/OQ/PQ utilities readiness, calibration of critical instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, conductivity). Prepare and present utility KPIs in monthly reviews; support internal/external audits (QA/regulatory/client). 6) Energy & Water Efficiency Track and improve energy KPIs: kW/TR for chillers, kWh/Nm³ for compressed air, kg steam/kg fuel for boilers. Drive optimization projects: compressor leak reduction, heat recovery, VFD tuning, CT approach improvement, condensate recovery. 7) EHS & Statutory Ensure LOTO, PPE, confined space, and hot work compliance. Verify safety interlocks (HP/LP cutouts, flame safeguards), relief valves, and emergency shutdowns. Comply with boiler inspectorate requirements and maintain statutory records. 8) Cross-Functional Collaboration Align daily operations with Production, HVAC, QA, and EHS teams. Train technicians on SOPs, safety, sampling/measurement, and deviation response. • You will be responsible for coordinating with cross functional teams for ensuring that preventive maintenance is carried out as per schedules in SAP. • Your role involves preparing the PMP (Preventive Maintenance Plan) and maintaining the necessary records of breakdowns and maintenance activities in the PMP as per defined frequency. • Your responsibilities include handling of external contractors and agencies, reviewing and ensuring implementation of the instructions (Work Instructions and SOPs – Standard Operating Procedures) related to production operation. • You will train and assist the team members during troubleshoot and breakdown of machines and commissioning of new Equipment. • You will ensure balance investigation and inventory control for all instrument spares parts. • Your role involves planning, consolidating and submitting the maintenance budget for the allotted area/unit. • You will ensure that the maintenance expense is within the budgeted amount. • You will be responsible for ensuring availability of all process equipment and regular maintenance of all process equipment spares by following up with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), external vendors and SCM (Supply Chain Management). • You will be accountable for enduring closure and completion all assigned CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) on time. • You will be expected to support any technical/documentation activities at site as per instructions from Section Head. • You will be responsible for preparing, updating, and maintaining all necessary documents for audits like SOPs, formats, PM (Preventive Maintenance) books, protocols, and Machine History Books for the respective areas. • Your responsibilities include facility upkeep of respective areas as per GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and cGMP (Current GMP). • You will be accountable for ensuring implementation of Good Engineering Practices (GEP) at Site. Qualifications Educational qualification: A Diploma or a B.Tech (Mechanical/Electrical/Instrumentation) Minimum work experience: 4 to 8 years Skills & attributes: Technical Skills • Knowledge and experience in handling Instrumentation maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment breakdown maintenance, and predictive maintenance. • Experience in troubleshot and breakdown management of machines and equipment. • Experience in managing preventive maintenance plans. • Ability to manage maintenance budget of an area/unit. • Knowledge of GMP and GEP.
