The Workers’ Compensation Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating referrals and authorizations for patients with work-related injuries. This role ensures timely communication between the clinic, insurance carriers, case managers, employers, and specialty providers to facilitate efficient patient care while complying with workers’ compensation regulations and protocols.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in workers’ compensation or medical referrals.
  • Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation procedures and terminology.
  • Experience with EMR systems and referral tracking software.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual (a plus

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate specialist referrals, diagnostic testing, and therapy appointments for workers’ comp patients.
  • Verify and obtain proper authorizations prior to scheduling services.
  • Track pending authorizations and follow up to ensure timely approvals.
  • Serve as a liaison between providers, adjusters, case managers, and patients regarding referrals and treatment status.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with employers, insurance companies, and third-party administrators (TPAs).
  • Accurately document all communications, referrals, and authorizations in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and organizational documentation requirements.
  • Monitor workers’ comp cases for timely follow-up appointments and continuity of care.
  • Stay up to date with state and federal workers’ compensation guidelines.
  • Assist with appointment scheduling, data entry, and record requests related to workers’ comp cases.
  • Support the workers’ comp team with additional clerical tasks as needed.
