Core Cutter Prince of Wales Island, AK | Seasonal, Temporary POSITION DETAILS Location: Prince of Wales Island, AK (Remote Camp) Schedule: 12 hours/day, 7 days/week -- 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off Employment Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Non-Exempt Pay Range: $14.00 -- $15.00/hour Benefits: Room and board provided. Transportation to and from site covered by client. ABOUT THE POSITION This is a seasonal, temporary position based at a remote exploration camp on Prince of Wales Island, AK. The camp is accessible only by floatplane, helicopter, or boat -- there are no roads in or out. Employees work a 12-hour day shift, 7 days a week, on a 3-weeks-on/3-weeks-off rotation. Room and board are provided at no cost to the employee. Transportation to and from the site is covered by the client. This is a dry camp: alcohol and firearms are not permitted on site. Prescription medications are permitted with appropriate documentation. POSITION SUMMARY This is an entry-level position supporting exploration mining operations at a remote camp site. The Core Cutter is responsible for the cutting, labeling, and shipping of drill core samples for off-site analysis. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-minded, able to stand for extended periods, and comfortable performing repetitive tasks with accuracy. This role requires the ability to lift up to 70 pounds. RESPONSIBILITIES * Assist geologists with geotechnical tasks, including preparation and visual analysis of drill core and recording footage * Perform specific gravity testing * Saw rock samples and prepare sample shipments for delivery to an analytical laboratory for assay * Clean equipment and work area between samples to prevent cross-contamination * Label and store core boxes for later access * Number sample bags sent to the lab and verify that the sample sequence is correct * Enter all sample details into a computer database * Ensure quality control is maintained throughout the sampling process * Perform other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * High school diploma or equivalent * Valid driver’s license * One year of prior experience in the mining or construction industry * Ability to understand and communicate in English at a level that allows for safe and efficient job performance * Demonstrated attention to detail, including accuracy with numbered sequences * Ability to carry out instructions provided verbally and in writing * Ability to create and maintain a safe working environment * Must pass a pre-employment drug screen; subject to scheduled, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing throughout employment * Responsible, organized, self-motivated, and team-oriented PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Prior camp or remote environment experience * Hazardous materials training * MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) underground training * First Aid Level 1 certification ABOUT US POWTEC was founded by two tribes, the Craig Tribal Association and the Organized Village of Kasaan, on the shore of Southeast Alaska’s rugged Prince of Wales Island.
