Please note: This is a temporary position (min. 14 months) with potential to extend or become permanent.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is an important part of the day-to-day accounting function and reports to the CFO. General duties include helping prepare various financial reports, processing statements and financial entries, and supporting other department functions. An individual in this position should have advanced experience with accounting software, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and have sound understanding of financial and accounting practices

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and internal control principles
  • Knowledge of provincial legislation on Employment Standards, Occupational Health and Safety, and Human Rights
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations on business issues in a timely manner
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Manage numerous priorities at once and be able to multi-task effectively
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Note: A combination of education and experience outside of the standards below may also be considered.

Education

  • University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Management/ Administration.

Professional Designation

  • Chartered Accountant, Certified General Accountant, or Certified Management Accountant designation is an asset.

Minimum Experience

  • 3 years in a similar role

Responsibilities

Responsibility Area #1 – Documentation and Reporting

  • Update financial data in accounting software to ensure the accuracy of the information
  • Review payroll records and expenses, among other items as assigned
  • Perform account reconciliations and updating accounts payable and receivable, on an as needed basis
  • Process financial entries to ensure a proper recording of all business transactions
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual income statements, balance sheets, and other financial statements as per the company’s financial, and accounting guidelines
  • Develop monthly financial statements that include profit and loss statements, cash flow records, balance sheets, and project accounting for various companies
  • Prepare the company’s monthly rolling financial forecast and bi-weekly cash forecast for review.
  • Develop annual financial budget alongside the company’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
  • Ensure PST requirements of the organization are being met monthly
  • Prepare and submit monthly bank financial reports
  • Assist Accounts payable, Accounts receivable and payroll, on an as needed basis

Responsibility Area #2 – Communication

  • Communication with CRA and Service Canada as required
  • Work with Chief Operations Officer and the Operations Department, acting in a business partner capacity to assess project & operational performance and improvement.

Responsibility Area #3 – Health and Safety

  • Ensure that there are no safety hazards in the office or workspace
  • Actively participate in the company health and safety program, including at minimum one monthly AHOC submission

Responsibility Area #4 – Values and Purpose

  • Participate in trainings to develop a “way of being” that is in alignment with the culture and values of A&H Steel
  • Focus on developing self and others through practicing living the company values every day
