Description
Lexington School and Center for the Deaf, together with its three affiliated agencies; Mental Health, Hearing & Speech, and Vocational Services is seeking a Corporate Compliance Officer (CCO). This opportunity is structured as an independent contractor role. The CCO will serve as an independent and objective leader, ensuring that all four entities comply with applicable laws, regulations, funding requirements, and internal policies. This independent contractor position is structured for approximately 4–6 hours per week. The CCO will maintain independence from management, coordinate with external third parties when needed, and report directly to the Board of Trustees.   Responsibilities * Develop, implement, and oversee compliance programs for the school and three agencies: Mental Health, Hearing & Speech, and Vocational Services. * Provide independent oversight and act as an advisor to the Board of Trustees regarding compliance risks, trends, and emerging issues. * Report regularly and directly to the Board with updates, assessments, and recommendations. * Ensure secure, confidential reporting channels for whistleblowers and safeguard against retaliation. * Ensure independence by maintaining the authority to escalate compliance matters. * Oversee compliance investigations, audits, and assessments across all entities, engaging independent third parties as appropriate. * Monitor compliance with Office of Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG).  * Provide training and guidance to staff and management across all programs to strengthen a culture of ethics, integrity, and accountability. * Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting schools and nonprofit service agencies, advising the Board on organizational impact.   Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred * Compliance certification (e.g., CCEP, CCEP-I) or equivalent experience strongly preferred. * 5+ years of compliance, legal, or risk management experience (non-profit background preferred) * Strong knowledge of non-profit governance and regulatory requirements * Demonstrated ability to operate with independence and integrity, with experience in direct Board reporting. * Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn.   Schedule * Schedule 4-6 hours per week to be scheduled at the discretion of the independent contractor. * Contracted rate range: $70.00 - $80.00 per hour   For more information or if you are interested in this position, please contact by email BOTPresident@lexnyc.org [BOTPresident@lexnyc.org]
