We are currently seeking a Corporate Controller to join our dynamic team at our head office in London, Ontario. The ideal candidate will be passionate, self-driven, and experienced.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (required).
  • CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation strongly preferred; CMA or CGA also valued.
  • Continuing professional development in accounting standards, real estate regulations, and construction finance.

Experience

  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role within constriction and/or real estate.
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasts, and cash flow for multiple projects and property portfolios.
  • Hands-on experience with project costing, capital expenditure tracking, and construction contract accounting.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing financial systems, process improvements, and internal controls.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Canadian GAAP, specifically ASPE standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting/ERP software such as Yardi, Sage 300, QuickBooks, or equivalent.
  • Strong Excel skills, including financial modelling and data analysis.
  • Understanding of tax regulations relevant to property management and construction.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills

  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on mentoring and developing staff.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with executives, auditors, lenders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and ensure the accuracy of annual financial statements in compliance with accounting standards, industry regulations, and contractual obligations, including hands-on preparation and review across multiple entities.
  • Manage job cost accounting, WIP schedules and costs-to-complete for various construction projects within the company.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of construction project costs, billings, and profitability.
  • Lead the preparation of budgets, project forecasts, variance analysis and cash flow projections for multiple construction projects, divisions, and entities.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, covenant requirements, and relevant construction industry legislation.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, banks, and other business partners.
  • Account for joint venture and partnership structures, including equity contributions, profit allocations, and distributions.
  • Maintain knowledge of changes in accounting standards, tax rules, and construction regulations, and advise management accordingly.
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with corporate policies.
  • Implement process improvements to increase efficiency in accounting and reporting systems.
  • Partner with senior leadership to support strategic planning, investment decisions, and growth initiatives.
