While the emphasis of this role is finance, the candidate should have strong strategic and tactical skills since responsibilities include collaborating on a breadth of staff functions and working closely with all senior members of the organization while reporting to the CFO. Interacts and reports to the board of directors as required. Directs all accounting, tax, finance, FPA, and auditing activities. Establishes, implements, and ensures adherence to related policies, procedures, and internal controls. Ensures the accurate and timely preparation and analysis of company financial records, statements, and related reports. Initiates and oversees the development and maintenance of automated accounting systems. Oversees all activities and systems involving the management of cash resources. Manages borrowing/investing activities to ensure adequate liquidity, working capital requirements, and risk management related to the company’s financial activities. Works under limited supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Directs all accounting operations, overseeing all transactions related to general ledger, receivables, payables, payroll, and financial reporting in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Oversees the preparation and reporting of the HQ financial package to the parent company in Japan. Analyzes the company's financial results with respect to profits, trends, costs, and compliance with budgets. Issue regular status and ad hoc reports to senior management. Oversees the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and forecasts to ensure compliance with approved budgetary guidelines. Oversees the control of receivables and payables, the distribution of expenses, and the recording of inventories, fixed assets acquisition, depreciation, and scrapping. Develops and coordinates relationships with lending/financial institutions. Collaborates with the company’s parent company to anticipate and forecast future cash positions and borrowing requirements. Reviews and oversees the audit and evaluation of significant corporate expenditures. Prepares reports on findings and recommends cost-saving measures, procedural changes, and the size of appropriate cash reserves. Establishes, implements, and ensures adherence to the company’s accounting policies and procedures. Oversees the development of programs to audit new financial and operational procedures adopted by the company. Manages the relationship with public accounting firms to express an opinion on the company's financial condition. Provide reports on findings to the Board of Directors. Oversees the management of tax planning and compliance with all required federal, state, local, payroll, income, property, and other applicable taxes. Ensures that information needed to prepare quarterly income tax provisions and income tax filings is provided to the company’s tax preparers. Reviews and approves the work products. Works with the CEO, external advisors, and vendors to ensure that the company provides competitive, cost-effective, and compliant health and welfare benefits to its employees. Oversees and works with HR and payroll vendors to manage the company’s payroll. Collaborates with the Director, Funding & Compliance to ensure that the company is following various state license and regulatory requirements such as annual reports. Oversees, directs, and organizes the work of the accounting and finance team. Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality. Establishes and monitors staff performance and development goals, assigns accountabilities, sets objectives, establishes priorities, conducts annual performance appraisals, and administers salary adjustments. Mentors and develops staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assigns accountabilities; sets objectives; establishes priorities; and monitors and evaluates results. Participates in Customer and Vendor negotiations as required. Performs other duties and participates in special projects as assigned. Requirements Job Requirements Prerequisites Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, MBA a plus. Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least five years in a management role, required with advanced knowledge of tax, finance, accounting, and auditing practices and techniques. Working knowledge of applicable FASB pronouncements and government reporting requirements. Solid knowledge of applicable US GAAP and IFRS. Certifications, Licenses, etc.: CPA preferred. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to also read and speak Japanese is desired but not required. Mathematical Skills: Skilled in math applications and multiple Excel functions, including data and finance. Reasoning Skills: Demonstrates strong attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex financial transactions to deliver comprehensive financial insights. Skills in strategic planning and organization are essential for effectively managing the organization's financial and accounting operations. Technical Skills: Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central accounting system and Solver. Strong proficiency in PC applications (Office 365) and computer network and cloud systems is required. Solify InfoLease or other leasing/asset finance software solution Work Environment and Physical Demands General Work Environment: General office environment with the option to work remotely.
