Description

Kraemer North America is currently looking for an experienced Corporate Counsel to join our team in our Plain, WI location. The Corporate Counsel advises management in legal compliance, litigation matters, risk management, and employment-related issues involving the company and its subsidiaries. Acts in a proactive manner in developing and recommending policies and procedures for company operations. Provides counsel and legal guidance to the senior management team as needed. Reports to the Vice President/Business Group Manager and to the President and Chief Executive Officer upon request.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and a license to practice law in the state of Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Colorado (with the ability to get an “in-house” license in the two remaining states)
  • Minimum 8 years’ related experience
  • Ability to interact and/or communicate effectively with both internal and external customers
  • Strong decision making and/or problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring extensive concentration, detail oriented
  • Knowledge of company areas of operation
  • Labor/employment relations training and/or experience
  • Construction industry experience preferred
  • Prior experience leading a legal team preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Strong writing skills
    Base salary is dependent on multiple factors: education, experience, skills, market rates, internal equity and/or location

Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of litigation, including strategy setting, discovery, motion practice, trial practice, communication with outside counsel and consultants, etc.
  • Monitor, ensure and address legal compliance, including employment-related issues
  • Draft and review contracts, including but not limited to prime contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, joint venture agreements, teaming agreements, and non-disclosure agreements
  • Interact with owners, subcontractors, suppliers, etc., regarding legal issues
  • Support Risk Management and Safety Departments
  • Support Union CBA negotiations and manage labor agreements
  • Conduct legal research as needed
  • Draft and review company policies, procedures, and plans
  • Assist HR as needed with employment and benefits matters, ethics matters, drug testing policy enforcement, etc.
  • Assist in preparing and performing training presentations
  • Develop, recommend, and implement strategies and prepare necessary documents for land use matters, including zoning, permitting, leasing of property, as well as purchase and sale of property
  • Interact with Safety and Regional personnel on OSHA and MSHA compliance issues
  • Participate and assist EEO Officer and Human Resources Manager in investigating and resolving EEO, harassment and discrimination complaints
  • Participate in insurance purchasing and risk transfer procedures
