Are you passionate about creating safe, compliant, and supportive working environments? We’re looking for a dedicated Corporate Health and Safety Adviser to join our team and help ensure that the Council meets its statutory responsibilities and continues to prioritise the wellbeing of its staff, schools, and wider community.
In this vital role, you’ll provide expert health and safety advice and guidance across a range of council services, including local authority operations, educational settings such as schools and trusts, and other client organisations. You’ll work collaboratively with internal managers and external partners to raise awareness, strengthen health and safety culture, and embed best practices across the board.

As our Health and Safety Adviser, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the Council remains fully compliant with all relevant health and safety legislation and responsibilities.
  • Supporting the implementation of corporate health and safety policies and strategy across a variety of settings.
  • Advising, training, and coaching service teams and leadership to build strong safety awareness and competence.
  • Leading accident investigations and providing clear, constructive recommendations.
  • Developing and delivering a robust, risk-based health and safety audit programme for both the corporate and educational estate.

BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THIS JOB, IT WILL BE NECESSARY FOR THE APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF CRIMINAL RECORD DISCLOSURE TO BE UNDERTAKEN. THIS POST IS EXEMPT FROM THE REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT 1974 AND THEREFORE APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO DECLARE ALL UNSPENT CAUTIONS AND CONVICTIONS; AND ALSO ANY ADULT CAUTIONS (SIMPLE OR CONDITIONAL), AND SPENT CONVICTIONS THAT ARE NOT PROTECTED AS DEFINED BY THE REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT 1974 (EXCEPTIONS) ORDER 1975 (AS AMENDED IN 2020). A PERSON’S CRIMINAL RECORD WILL NOT IN ITSELF PREVENT A PERSON FROM BEING APPOINTED TO THIS POST. APPLICANTS WILL NOT BE REFUSED POSTS BECAUSE OF OFFENCES WHICH ARE NOT RELEVANT TO, AND DO NOT PLACE THEM AT OR MAKE THEM A RISK IN, THE ROLE FOR WHICH THEY ARE APPLYING. HOWEVER IN THE EVENT OF THE EMPLOYMENT BEING TAKEN UP, ANY FAILURE TO DISCLOSE SUCH OFFENCE, AS DETAILED ABOVE, WILL RESULT IN DISMISSAL OR DISCIPLINARY ACTION BY THE AUTHORITY.
